Hail Hail Rock’N’Roll! Happy B-day, Chuck!

Happy 91st Birthday in Heaven, Chuck Berry! (October 18, 1926 – March 18, 2017)

The man who invented Rock ‘N’ Roll would have been 91 years old today!  He gave us great music!!!

Chuck’s music was used in movies.  Here’s the dance scene from Pulp Fiction.  The song is called You Never Can Tell.

A Very Puckett Birth!

Happy 75th Birthday, Gary Puckett!

The lead singer/guitarist of Gary Puckett and the Union Gap has reached a milestone.  Hope you’re having a great day!  Next month, Gary and his band will be playing at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den in Uncasville, CT, on November 26.  I’m planning on going to it.  Why not? I’ve met Gary Puckett many times, and he’s awesome!

Check out his website because he might be doing a concert near you.

Happy 77th, John Lennon!

Happy 77th Birthday, John Lennon! (October 9, 1940 – December 8, 1980)

Today would have been John’s 77th birthday.  We all know why he was taken away from us at such a young age.  It’s very sad that there are people in this country that will coldly murder someone for no reason since John’s murder.  Just last week, a madman in a hotel shot down and killed 59 people and injured more 500 others during a country music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Why can’t some give peace a chance?

Btw, Happy Birthday to Sean Lennon (John and Yoko’s son)!

Very Sad to Hear about Tom Petty

As I walked home tonight from the subway station to my  home in Jamaica Plain, I saw a full moon in the sky and couldn’t help but think about the sudden death of Tom Petty yesterday.  The singer/guitarist had a cardiac arrest late Sunday night and was rushed to the hospital.  Despite the efforts of the medical professionals, Tom was brain dead, and his family decided to take him off of life support yesterday.

I found out about Tom’s condition when CBS news erroneously reported that he had died.  I saw the news alert on my iPhone and felt shocked.  Later that evening, I learned that CBS as well as Rolling Stone magazine reported the wrong information.  Tom was still alive but deteriorating.

Monday had been a sad day already because of the terrible mass shooting in Las Vegas during a music festival out there.  Eventually, I got the correct news of Tom’s passing just after midnight (Tom was in Los Angeles after just completing his 40th anniversary tour with his band, the Heartbreakers.

Tom was only 66 years old.  He died just a couple of weeks before his 67th birthday (October 20).  Rest in Peace, Tom.  Another Traveling Wilbury has died.

I am very fortunate that I had seen him in concert 3 times in the last 20  years.

Remembering Adam West on His 89th B-Day

Happy 89th Birthday, Adam West! (September 19, 1928 – June 9, 2017)

I’m certain he’s having a great time celebrating his birthday up there in the Batcave in the sky with Batgirl (Yvonne Craig), Commissioner Gordon (Neil Hamilton), Chief O’Hara (Stafford Repp), Alfred the Butler (Alan Napier), and Aunt Harriett (Madge Blake).  As we all know, he was Batman back in the 1960s.

His hometown of Walla Walla, Washington, is doing a big Adam West Day celebration in his memory today for his birthday.

I had the pleasure of meeting his several times over the last 15 years.  Most recently, I saw him in March of this year at the Hanover Mall for a comic book convention in Hanover, MA.

Happy Birthday, Illya aka Ducky!

Happy 84th Birthday, David McCallum!

The former Man From U.N.C.L.E. star (Illya Kuryakin) back in the 1960s and currently playing medical examiner Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS is celebrating his birthday.  During this past weekend, he celebrated the 50th anniversary of his wedding to his wife Katherine Carpenter.  David has been busy with the celebrations!

RIP, Harry Dean Stanton!

Last Friday, news broke about character actor Harry Dean Stanton passing away at the age of 91.  He was in a lot of TV shows before his movie career took off in the 1980s. Recently, he had appeared in the Twin Peaks: The Return series on Showtime this past summer, and he was in the Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me movie that came out in 1992.  A new movie he had done is going to be released in less than 2 weeks.
